Deep Space
The lonely house floats, it seems, in a vast and endless expanse of grass. It lies far outside the normal bounds of civilization. Barely an empty road comes within a mile of it. Like a station in deep space, floating alone, it is a small light in the darkness, the Last Homely House for miles upon miles upon miles. It is a small refuge of warmth and humanity in a vast, otherwise slightly hostile landscape.
There is a young man inside. He feels trapped and suffocated by the isolation. He longs to be anywhere else. He is unaware that his longing is not for new scenery, but to escape the toxic atmosphere created by one environmental factor. When he does leave, in a few years, after an initial infatuation with the wider world, he longs to return to this place which no longer exists.
However, this house no longer exists. The once barren horizon is now dotted with wind turbines. The very sky itself has become a vector for surveillance and observation. What once could have been a paradise but for one weak man, is now nearly an impossibility.
